The practical details autistic men, teen boys, and parents usually want to know before beginning.

Do I need a formal autism diagnosis?

No. Some clients have a formal diagnosis, some self-identify after careful research, and others are beginning to explore whether autism explains long-standing patterns. Coaching can begin with the difficulties and goals you already recognize.

Is this only for men and teen boys?

Yes. This specialized practice focuses exclusively on autistic men and teen boys ages 12 and older. Parents or spouses may make the first contact or participate when useful, but the primary client is male.

What is the difference between coaching and counseling?

Coaching and counseling are integrated based on what you need. Coaching is structured around practical goals, systems, skills, decisions, communication, executive function, school, work, or transitions. Counseling makes room for anxiety, shame, grief, painful history, relationships, faith, or the emotional impact of diagnosis. A session can include both.

What actually happens in a coaching session?

You choose a useful target, map the pattern underneath it, build a concrete plan, and decide what to test before the next meeting. Future sessions review what really happened and adjust the plan without shame or generic advice.

Will you try to make me mask?

No. You may choose to develop a skill for a particular environment, but the goal is not to erase autistic traits or reward a performance that leaves you depleted. The work aims for honest, sustainable functioning.

How much does faith come into the work?

As much or as little as is useful to you. Madison is Christian and can thoughtfully include faith, Scripture, identity, or spiritual questions. This is not primarily a spiritual counseling site, and practical autism needs are not reduced to spiritual problems.

Where do sessions happen?

In-person sessions are available in Wake Forest, serving Raleigh and the greater Triangle area. Online coaching and counseling are also available, depending on the service and your location.

Do you provide autism evaluations?

The practice focuses on coaching, counseling, education, and practical support. It does not replace a formal diagnostic evaluation. Madison can help you understand what you are noticing and discuss referral options when needed.

What happens in the first call?

The initial 20-minute phone consultation is a low-pressure conversation with our team. You can explain what is not working, ask direct questions, and determine whether coaching, counseling, or another option makes sense.
